Child & adolescent neuropsychological evaluations

In-depth evaluations that explain how your child learns, focuses and handles emotions, with practical recommendations for home and school.

Is your child struggling, and you're not sure why?

Maybe homework takes hours. Maybe a bright child is falling behind, or teachers describe a different child than the one you see at home. A comprehensive evaluation looks at the whole picture, including cognition, attention, memory, language, academics and emotional functioning, to find out what is really going on.

Common reasons families come to us

  • Autism spectrum
  • ADHD
  • Twice-exceptional (2E) profiles
  • Executive functioning challenges
  • Dyslexia and reading difficulties
  • Learning disabilities
  • Anxiety, depression and mood
  • School accommodations (504, IEP)

What the testing day covers

During an all-day, in-person session, a broad range of standardized neuropsychological measures is used to assess:

  • Cognitive ability (IQ)
  • Academic achievement: reading, writing, math
  • Executive functioning
  • Auditory and visual memory
  • Visual and auditory attention
  • Language and processing speed
  • Social and emotional functioning
  • Personality patterns

The four phases

1. Developmental history. We start with your child's story: early development, how they cope with strong emotions, learning history, friendships, and what they hope for their future.

2. In-person testing. One full day of testing at our Lexington Avenue office, with breaks built in.

3. Feedback. A session in person or by video to go over what we found and what to do about it.

4. Written report. A detailed report with recommendations for home (strategies for parents), school (accommodations and supports for educators) and clinicians (guidance for therapists and physicians).

Please note: Aspyre Psychology does not provide divorce-related services such as custody or parenting evaluations.

Questions parents ask

What ages do you evaluate?

Children, adolescents and young adults ages 5 to 22. Whether an evaluation fits your child's age and needs is discussed during the free consultation.

Will the evaluation help with school accommodations?

Yes. Reports give clear, actionable recommendations that schools can use for 504 plans, IEPs and classroom supports.

Do you talk to teachers or schools?

When it helps, we gather information from teachers and the school so the evaluation reflects how your child functions in every setting.

How long does it take?

Testing is one full day in person. The full evaluation and written report typically take 2 to 3 weeks.
